CEO Discusses the Digital Works Celebration
Through The Years
It all started in Zanesville, Ohio, back in 2013. That’s when Connected Nation (CN) staff began evolving their digital literacy skills program into a targeted community revitalization and job growth program called Digital Works.
“Our nonprofit has always been focused on helping individuals and families access the internet and related technologies,” said Chris Pedersen, Vice President of Planning and Development, CN. “As we worked with more community leaders and began identifying the needs in both rural and urban areas, a trend started to emerge—there was not a program to increase job options in many of these areas. We knew that if we could provide digital training and job placement assistance for online positions it would help fill that need.”
The goal was to provide a workforce and economic development platform that could be tailored to everything from large, urban settings to small, rural towns or even statewide programs.Learn More
A Letter From The Second Lady
Digital Works has been working to provide training and job placement assistance to military spouses. Military spouses face some of the nation’s highest levels of unemployment because they must move often to support their enlisted spouses.
This is an issue that’s also important to Second Lady Karen Pence. Because of that she shared the following letter in support of and to commemorate the 1000th Job Placement for Digital Works.Learn More
What People Say!
BG Jim Iacocca, U.S. Army, Retired
President and CEO
Knox Regional Development Alliance
"I would like to congratulate Digital Works / Connected Nation for their 1,000 job placement. Additionally and more importantly, I would like to thank them for what they have done to improve the lives of our military families and veterans by providing training that leads to portable jobs to allow military spouses to continue to work as they move around the world. Continued success to you and your graduates."
"Connected Nation’s Digital Works initiative has met an impressive milestone with 1,000 job placements. By strengthening our communities through digital literacy and job training, the program supports those who have sacrificed so much for our freedom by providing a leg up a time when Kentuckians need it most. At AT&T, we are honored to support this worthy effort and to give back to the men and women who have given so much for our country. Here’s to the next 1,000 jobs and beyond!"
Digital Works Graduate
Class of 2020
"Digital Works is the real rock star! I have been trying for so long but just did not have the motivation and the tools until I stumbled upon DW. I'm so excited to start this journey, and I am forever grateful to Digital Works for this milestone."
Digital Works Graduate
Class of 2013
"The program teaches you everything you need to know about doing this kind of work—from people skills to computer knowledge. To others considering Digital Works: Don’t pass up the opportunity, because being able to be your own boss, set your own hours, to accomplish things you never you thought you could accomplish are all things you can do by going through this program. It opens up so many opportunities."
Digital Works Graduate
Class of 2014
"Digital Works is a door-opener and an eye-opener. If you start with the mindset that you’re going to apply yourself, you’ll be surprised. You could be a supervisor in a year. The demand is so great that this is the right time to get into the field, and Digital Works can help you do it."
"Digital Works and RISE Up give people the chance to stand out among job applicants. People who earn a RISE Up Customer Service and Sales credential get something concrete to show potential employers that they’re prepared to succeed. Together, Digital Works and the NRF Foundation help people build skills that serve them throughout their career."
Gallia County Department of Job and Family Services
"Digital Works provided services in Gallia County through a partnership with Gallia County Department of Job and Family Services as well as others in the Community and the State. The services provided were beneficial to our citizens for it prepared them for the nontraditional job opportunities. Although nontraditional job opportunities with W-2 wages were not abundant at that time, the opportunity prepared many for the pandemic work environment where traditional jobs were thrust into the untraditional work of home based employment utilizing web based solutions. The Digital Works participants I have spoken to were able to easily adjust to this new work environment and many may be able to continue working at home as the pandemic restrictions become to loosen. The pandemic has highlighted the broadband deficiency in our community, and we hope that the heightened exposure will lead to expanded broadband opportunities. I would like to congratulate Digital Works for reaching the 1,000 job placement marker and hope this is just a stepping stone that will allow them to leap forward."
