Fort Campbell, KY (June 26, 2020) – Sonia Avila is a graduate of the very first class at the Digital Works Fort Campbell facility. The Guatemala native is a strong military wife and mother, and she’s the type of person who makes everyone feel warm and welcome in her presence.
When she first learned about Digital Works, her husband was serving a tour in Korea. She felt strongly about earning an income for her family, yet she wanted to remain present in her daughter’s life. That’s why she set out to find a job that would allow her to work from home.
“One night, I saw an article online that mentioned Digital Works and how they help military spouses and veterans obtain work-from-home jobs. I registered online and quickly learned that I qualified for the program. I was informed that there would be no costs to me because the program was provided through grant funds. I was ecstatic! At that point, I was willing to show them I was committed and responsible. I was prepared to participate and give them my best effort.”
Shortly after graduating from the four-week program, the pandemic struck and Sonia was left wondering what she would do. “The Digital Works facility provides an on-site work center environment. I had the ability to work from the center and use the computers, phones and headsets that they made available. When COVID-19 took over, the facility was shut down and I had no idea how I would work. I didn’t have a computer of my own.”
The staff at Digital Works cares so deeply about their students that they couldn’t allow something like the pandemic to take away the opportunity for a student to work. That’s when they agreed to lend Sonia a computer and all the accessories she would need to successfully work from home. She remembers that moment clearly: “They opened the doors and gave me the tools to a new opportunity. I could never thank them enough!”
Sonia is now working from home and achieving her goals! She’s raising a daughter, taking care of things on the home front, and proud of herself for doing it all while earning an income for her family.
“Digital Works went above and beyond what I had expected; they really guided me and made it possible for me to work from home. They really put their trust in me, and I don’t have the words to say how grateful I am!”
