Digital Works’ newest facility has only been open for a few months, but in late May the Newaygo, MI, site received some unexpected attention. A CNN crew visited the facility, located at The Stream.
The news crew was profiling the work being done in places like Newaygo to improve the quality of life for families and economic outreach for businesses in both rural and urban areas through access to the Internet. According to census data, Newaygo has a population of just under 2,000 people placing the town in the “rural” category of the reports.
The Stream provides a space where people can create opportunity and provide business solutions in an effort to stimulate economic growth for the community of Newaygo. Digital Works’ mission to provide training, mentorship, and job placement for its students and graduates was a perfect match for the work being done at The Stream.
In May, the CNN crew shot footage of Digital Works’ first class of graduates. They were hard at work applying for online and work-at-home jobs less than two weeks after completing their courses.
Although the news crew did not interview graduates, it will be a great opportunity to showcase the Digital Works facility on a national stage. The CNN footage will be used as part of a series of reports airing later this year.
