Many people gathered on May 10 at the Center for Workforce Development Conference Center on the Columbus State Community College’s Columbus Campus for the 2017 Employment Expo. The attendees were intrigued by Digital Works’ opportunities for online, work-at-home positions and were inspired by the success stories told about previous Digital Works graduates. Stu Johnson, Vice President of Digital Works, Lisa McCuiston, Project Coordinator, and Rachel O’Morrow, Communications Intern, represented Digital Works at the expo, which was open to the public and showcased employers as well as resources for employment.
Many people who approached the Digital Works table need a stay-at-home job due to children or other family obligations. Once the attendees learned Digital Works has relationships with many employers who offer telework positions, with plenty of room for advancement, often they would find a friend at the expo and bring them back to the table to hear how lives are impacted from the program.
Throughout the day many attendees were excited about how Digital Works could help prepare them for the possibility of promotion within an IT- or customer service-related career. Using a recent graduate from Digital Works, Thelma Mitchell, as an example, the Digital Work representatives were able to show how quickly someone can advance in a position due to skills learned through Digital Works.
Popular questions included the cost of the training and the length of time it takes to complete the training. As always, the training is sponsored, resulting in no out of pocket expense for qualifying candidates, and an individual’s skills coming into the Digital Works program determines how long training will take.
Smiling faces left the Digital Works table with brochures and application instructions in hand, and we look forward to new students beginning the Digital Works program soon!
