In Memoriam: Erika Robertson

August 5, 1988 – July 15, 2021 (age 32)

Back in early November of 2020, yet another kind soul was introduced to our Digital Works family. Erika Robertson, military spouse and mother to a spunky 7-year-old, joined in our Class #10 group and was impossible not to like. She had her quiet moments for the first few days of class but came out of her shell in no time, always ready with some sass or comment to make us all laugh. After successfully completing the program, she started working in a remote position that she enjoyed. Shortly after the start of the new year, however, her health began to decline, and she had to take a step back.

Erika tried to keep her health issues separate from her Digital Works interaction, but once our graduate family heard about her cancer, they jumped into action. Meals were prepared, dropped off, and ordered for her family as Erika went through intensive chemotherapy to combat the cancer trying to destroy her body. Through it all, Erika was positive and hopeful, something even the best of us has a hard time conveying in the face of so much pain.

Despite her strong warrior heart, Erika lost her battle with cancer on July 15, 2021. Her husband and daughter were with her in her final moments, saying goodbye to the wonderful woman they loved. The Connected Nation and Digital Works family are deeply saddened by this loss. Erika’s family has set up an option to plant a tree in her name, and CN has done so in honor of our beloved graduate. If you would like to do the same, the link is included below. While a memorial is not scheduled at this time, we all celebrate her memory and she will forever be a shining part of our Digital Works community. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends as they work through this difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the coming months.
