Digital Works Provides Virtual Training and Job Placement Assistance to ALL Kentucky Military Spouses, Veterans, and Veteran Spouses

In response to the pandemic, program provides a fast track to teleworking positions at no cost to participants

Fort Campbell, Ky (May 14, 2020)– Digital Works (DW) is providing training and job placement assistance for military spouses, veterans, and veteran spouses across Kentucky amid the COVID-19 crisis, and the program has extended its classes to an online format in response to the pandemic.

Digital Works, a program of Connected Nation, was developed to help meet the need of filling remote job positions. But it goes beyond job placement assistance: The program teaches a variety of marketable techniques such as typing, communication, customer service, résumé building, and technical skills needed for optimal at-home computer usage.

Classes provided at the Fort Campbell location switched to the online format in mid-March. In addition, program funders made it possible for Digital Works to begin offering the training and job placement assistance to ANY Kentucky veteran, spouse of a veteran, or military spouse—at no cost to participants.

Since then, over 30 participants have graduated from the program at Fort Campbell applied and received job offers. In addition to going virtual, classes have shifted from a four-week format to a two-week format in response to the immediate need for families and individuals to obtain teleworking positions during the pandemic.

“When we at Connected Nation and Digital Works had to make the decision to convert classes to 100 percent virtual during the stay-at-home orders, I was concerned about the ability to instruct and support these students without the facility being open,” said Digital Works facilitator Jessica Golson. “True to the hype behind them, though, these spouses and veterans have been beyond resilient and show up for class, work hard, and are getting jobs left and right. If anything, the virtual instruction is helping our graduates to be even better prepared for working remotely.”

As the DW program continues virtually, we encourage military spouses, veterans, and spouses of veterans living in Kentucky to sign up for classes on our website (details below). The next class begins on May 27 and goes through June 11, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (CT). New classes will continue to be added as needed in response to COVID-19 quarantines.

“The world around us may have changed how we are doing things,” Golson said, “but our program and these amazing students are still persevering and proving we have what it takes to drive for success and achieve our goals as a team!”
