Bowling Green, Ky. (November 5, 2024) – Fifty years ago, televisions and stereos were common in every American household, and computers were not. Although computing systems had already been created, they were large, expensive, clunky, and not something that the individual consumer wanted or needed.
In the early ’80s, I personally remember my high school offering its first computer class. Only three people signed up. Digital literacy was not important at the time; however, fast forward 40-plus years and oh, how the tide has turned!
A survey from 2020 revealed that, on average, Americans had access to more than 10 connected devices per household (computers, mobile phones, tablets, smart TVs, etc.)
Now more than ever, digital literacy is crucial. It empowers individuals to navigate the digital world, access information, participate in online activities, and make informed decisions. Those who are not up to speed cannot be fully engaged.
It is our mission at Connected Nation to help individuals gain basic digital skills so that they can develop safe online habits, evaluate critical information, and continuously learn and adapt in this ever-changing world.
